I have always been a creative person and have explored many artistic avenues, but when my father introduced me to oil painting in 2001, I was hooked. I have a degree in graphic design but I am primarly a self-taught fine artist.
I like working with oil paints for their versatility and the bright, rich colours. My brushwork tends to be delicate and I enjoy blending colours to create softness.
Painting allows me to connect with my emotions and convey my appreciation for beauty. I love vivid colours and the contrast that appears all around us. I like the bold colours of flowers, the delicate petals held by sturdy, deep green stems, the blues of sky and waterfall in the landscape that we see every day. My paintings reflect the varied landscapes of northern and central Ontario.
I look for subjects that inspire me to paint, the snapshots of life that speak to my soul. Through my painting I hope to connect with the viewer and to share with them my passion, energy and love of life.
Surrounded by the beauty and majesty of Ontario’s rocks, lakes and forests, Brenda Stonehouse brings to canvas her love for the tranquility of nature and the natural world around us.
Whether it is water, reflections, flowers or disappearing cedar rail fences, Brenda’s art conjures feelings of warmth, love and a nostalgia for simpler times.
Using oil as her favourite medium, Brenda creates unique artistic works combining the subtleties of light and shadow in bringing her subjects to life.
Brenda’s work is displayed in private and public collections throughout Canada, the United States and Japan.
